Effect of Narrative therapy on the Rumination of Divorced Mothers

Background: Increasing the tendency to divorce is one of the most important harms to the family and society; These injuries have great human, social, and economic costs, which are related to poor health, emotional disorders, addiction, and family poverty (Sands, Thompson, & Gaysina, 2017). Objective: The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of narrative therapy on the rumination of divorced mothers in Behbahan. Method: This research was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest design with a control group. The study population was all divorced mothers in Behbahan;  44 people were selected as a sample and randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. After the pretest, the protocol of the eight-session narrative therapy and post-test sessions with the questionnaire: RRS Nolenhohaxma and Murrow (1991); Findings: Statistical analysis of covariance was performed on 44 people, which confirmed the findings of data analysis, The results showed that the protocol of narrative therapy, rumination: (p <0.01, F = 13.53) has reduced the number of mothers in the area. Conclusion: Therefore, narrative therapy had an effect on the rumination of divorced mothers, and this treatment method can be applied to divorced mothers to increase mental health and reduce the harms of life after divorce and being a single parent.
